Care For Teens In The Seattle Metro Area

Our day and evening Teen Outpatient Programs at Fairfax are designed to help! Teens dealing with depression, lack of support, grief, trauma, school struggles or social activities avoidance and isolation need our support. Our outpatient services are part of the continuum of care offered for adolescents in the Seattle metropolitan area and can be used as an alternative to hospitalization. They offer more intensive care than a weekly office visit but don’t require an overnight stay or 24-hour care. Our programs include group therapy, individualized case management with a licensed clinician, structured family involvement, as well as a medication evaluation, and management by a board-certified psychiatrist.

Teen Day Program (PHP)

Hybrid or Virtual

Our Teen Day Treatment, commonly known as PHP (Partial Hospitalization Program), is an alternative to hospitalization and does not require 24-hour overnight care. Our Day Program for teens, ages 13-17, focuses on interpersonal relationship struggles (decrease conflicts in the home and school settings), emotional regulation, increasing self-confidence, developing coping skills, managing social anxiety, and learning how to navigate social media safely. Through evidence-based treatment models in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Seeking Safety, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), teens and families increase connection and understanding with each other, peers, and themselves. The Teen Day Program includes group, individual, and family therapy. We offer additional support in reconnecting with school to ease the transition back into a normal routine for teens. It is our goal to stay on top of the latest research and strive to offer a comprehensive curriculum for group therapy and we add new groups to keep the information we provide fresh. Teens are encouraged to participate in their healing process. The typical length of stay or course of treatment for the Adolescent Day Program is 4-6 weeks. The treatment team will work to create an individualized treatment plan that outlines personal goals and progress. Here are examples of some of the groups we offer for the Adolescent Day Program:

  • Process
  • Didactic/psychoeducation
  • Art/Recreation Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and coping skills
  • Social Media

Teen Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Morning IOP (3 or 5 Days weekly)
Afternoon IOP (3 days weekly)
Evening IOP (3 days weekly)

Our IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program) treatment, is an alternative to hospitalization and does not require 24-hour overnight care.

IOP is a group-based program with an average length of stay of 6-8 weeks. The adolescent IOP program in the Seattle metro area follows a DBT model where participants focus on modules consisting of mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.

The goal of this program is to decrease interpersonal conflict and unbalanced relationships, mindlessness and judgmental thinking, intense and painful emotions that are difficult to manage, and impulsive behaviors that create negative consequence. IOP also strives to increase positive and effective interactions with others, awareness and acceptance of the present moment, understanding of our emotions and mastery of our emotional responses, and tolerance of difficult emotions and stressors. Group therapy is facilitated by licensed therapists.
