The term “Chemical Dependency” is often used interchangeably with the terms addiction or substance abuse. At Fairfax Hospital chemical dependency refers to a primary illness or disease which is characterized by addiction to a mood-altering chemical. Chemical dependency includes both drug and alcohol addiction. It is a progressive and chronic disease, and if left untreated, it can be fatal.
Fairfax Hospital offers two services to help fight chemical dependency:
These services are inpatient hospital programs designed to provide stabilization and then treat this complex disease.
Treatment begins with a complete physical exam and chemical dependency assessment by our clinical team. Physician and nursing care is focused on safety through 24-hour observation and vital signs monitoring. As patients stabilize, they are introduced to group therapy and planning for recovery.
