Adult Inpatient Acute Detoxification

Detoxification is a process of withdrawing from addictive substances. When substances are denied for a period of time, the process can be both uncomfortable and dangerous. However, under hospital supervision, detoxification can be controlled and safe.

Fairfax Hospital utilizes a symptoms management approach to detoxification. This approach provides oral medications to treat adverse reactions to detoxification. Medically managed detoxification reduces discomfort and medical risks associated with withdrawal.

Detoxification  is available at Fairfax Hospital for:

  • Alcohol
  • Opioids (OxyContin, Oxycodone, Heroin)
  • Benzodiazepines (Valium, Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin)

Our program begins with a complete physical exam and chemical dependency assessment by our clinical team. Physician and nursing care is focused on safety through 24-hour observation and vital signs monitoring. As patients stabilize, they are introduced to group therapy and planning for recovery.

Fairfax’s goal is to restore physical and emotional health through treatment of substance abuse and mental health issues.

Inpatient detoxification can take from one to seven days. It is covered by most insurance plans with the exception of Medicaid. To inquire about admission, please contact us. Help is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
